Interface & Usability:
|| The web site interface has
a nice shade of blue throughout with different shades of silver and
gray giving it a shiny metal look.
Photos and text font are of a decent size and very legible. All
the main features are displayed across the top of every page and
there is a good sense of consistency throughout the site so you
shouldn't get lost.
Most of your search features are down the left hand side of the
screen and any adjustments to your profile can be made on your main
To simplify the use of all the features that are available to you,
they have layed them out in a tabbed browser format. This works
really well, to have everything at your fingertips and not have
you searching through pages and pages of menus to do or use something.
When searching for other members you get 10 profiles per page.
Interspersed throughout these are adverts for related products such
as condoms, add a photo, eye laser surgery or profile enhancement.
We're not sure if this is necessary, this is the same approach as
Match.com but somehow these ads don't seem as intrusive? We're not
sure why, and these ads offer products that would actually be of
benefit to someone who wants to improve their image or dating success
rate. So we'll forgive Date.com for this. Though some would argue
that ads are un-necessary, we'll let you decide for yourself if
they annoy you or not.
Other than that, very good interface, nice to use and look at.
| Date.com is a general dating
site so it's suitable for anyone and there's no adult nudity to be
seen. Date.com was launched in 1997 and was re-launched in its current
format on Valentine’s Day 2000.
Here is the official company statement about Date.com and what
it's all about:
Date.com is the Internet gateway to developing happy relationships.
A member can browse the site and post a profile, including a photograph,
for free. When the member’s search identifies someone he or
she would like to contact, they can chat online by becoming a registered
member of Date.com.
Date.com, “A community with millions of beautiful singles”
was launched on Valentine’s Day, 1997. It is the largest privately-held
site, with over two million active male and female members worldwide,
Date.com offers a safe, convenient and cost-effective way for singles
to meet. We are adding new members at a rate of approximately 250,000
per month with thousands of couples reporting their success on the
site. Many of these couples have gone on to get married and we are
happy to report the births of several Date.com babies. Date.com
has ventured offline sponsoring a Caribbean cruise and the wedding
of two our members in Las Vegas.
Here are a few questions that Date.com find they are frequently
Have any people who met on Date.com married each other?
We are thrilled to report that there have been at least 50 marriages
among people who met on our site in just the past 12 months. Countless
happy relationships and engagements have been formed, thanks to
Date.com. We expect many more in the future.
What are the demographics of the Date.com member?
The 20-30, 31-40 and 41-50 age brackets each represent approximately
30% of our member base. The remaining 10% are 50+. Approximately
55% of members are male; 45% female.
Is online dating safe?
Date.com goes to great lengths to make its dating site a safe and
friendly environment for all people. We carefully screen all written
profiles to ensure that the material adheres to our high standards
of conduct. Also, we take great care to advise our members on how
to approach the online dating process for maximum success.
Online dating has proven itself to be a safe, enjoyable and rewarding
experience for our members, many of whom became fed up with the
club scene and the risks involved with meeting people in that manner.
It has become obvious since the September 11th attacks on America
that people now more than ever need companionship and they are less
willing to leave their homes to find that relationship. When people
find each other on Date.com, they first see the other person’s
profile and photo, then typically they will chat online for a period
of time before advancing to the stage of exchanging telephone numbers.
Generally, only after advancing through these various levels of
communication do the people actually meet in person, and even then
we always suggest that it is prudent to get together in a public
We advise our clients to follow basic safety guidelines of dating.
Just like real life dating, online dating has its accepted norms
and proper behavior.
Do you hold any ‘off-line’ social events?
Date.com offered a special Caribbean cruise aboard the Celebrity
Cruise Line’s “Century” ship. We visited the exotic
ports of Ochos Rios, Jamaica, Georgetown, Grand Cayman, Cozumel,
Mexico and Key West, Florida during the day and partied the nights
away at our exclusive onboard events. We also offered special discounts
to members and a raffle to give away four free cruises.
We are currently planning future events.
What we liked about the site:
| Free members can create a
profile, upload their photo, search the member database, and show
interest in other members. This gives you more than you need to decide
if this site is for you.
Large worldwide membership database.
Very comprehensive members magazine.
Good help section.
Fast loading, well designed site.
Profile thumbnail size not an issue as all members free or paying
can view the full profiles of other members and thus their larger
What we didn't like about the site:
| Errr trying hard
to think of something, no web cam video features. Has everything else
that you need to meet people online.
|| A decent dating site if ever
we saw one. The interface is designed for ease of use and all features
are nicely layed out so as not to make any pages feel cluttered or
confusing. Date.com have a good try before you by offer going here.
You get access to nearly every feature and only have to pay when you
want to start emailing other members.
Allot of other sites restrict you far more than this one does.
This site does exactly what it says on the tin, browse profiles,
send emails, text chat to other members and read the online magazine.
They also organize offline events for singles from time to time
so watch out for that.
Their Caribbean cruise sounds excellent, we're sorry we missed
it. But we're waiting for the next one, just sitting here with our
bags packed :-) Although this site isn't as technologically advanced
as some other sites, what it does, it does well. Check it out.
THEN: "Have been talking on line & emailing since he took
a chance and sent me his request....never imagining that being we
live so far apart anything could come of it...but surprise.....we
talk every day someday's we've passed the 7 hours mark on line..."
NOW: "It was 1 year ago that I received my first date request
from Alan4301...I still haven't figured out why? I opened the email
from someone who lived 5000 miles away in a differant country with
NO PIC on his profile...But I did. And it was the BEST thing that
ever happened to me. Thank you, Date.com!"
"If it weren't for date.com we would not have found this love
and friendship we have. We both are very grateful for the service
you provided us and making it possible for two lonely hearts in
the world to meet and discover their soul mate was just a few miles
away waiting to be found. We will definitely send wedding photos
for all your customers to see that true love is out there and date.com
can help you find it. Our love story is truly a fairy tale come
true. I feel like Cinderella who has finally found her prince charming.
We have joined our lives together and become a family. Todd, Cathy,
Justice and Major (our dogs). One big happy family. Thanks date.com
for helping to guide me to my soul mate."
"Being a single father getting out to meet someone, let alone
finding someone who could appreciate your child, was a very impossible
task. She being a single parent as well, was dealing with the same
circumstances as I, but thanks to your service, dreams do come true.
We are to be married in March of 2004 and we and our kids couldn't
be happier. It's funny when people ask us how we met. At first the
reactions were quite comical, but what's really funny is that most
of those people are now doing the same thing. Again, I can't thank
you enough for opening a door I could not seem to find."
"I just wanted to thank Date.com. Because of your service,
I have found the perfect person for me. She loves me unconditionally
and makes me happier than I have ever been in my life. Thanks to
you, cutie3102 and myself were married on August 30th, 2003. Our
first date was July 3rd, 2002. We owe it all to you, otherwise we
never would have met. If you ever need good things said about your
site, I personally can't brag enough. I hope everyone else is able
to find that perfect someone, just like I did."
"I first found my lil'T back in January of 2004. 1-24-04 was
the first day we talked and we've talked almost everyday since then!
I visited her for the first time on our 3 month "anniversary"
of the day we first talked. It was the best weekend I've ever had.
I didn't want to go home, and she didn't want me to leave. She's
coming to visit me next month, and I plan on doing whatever I can
to make it work. I'm pretty sure I've found the girl that I've been
looking for my whole life! I just wanted to thank Date.com for helping
me find her!"
